DIY tank dividers

What you'll need:

-Plastic needlepoint canvas

(about $0.39 a piece for a large sheet at any craft store)

-Report spines

(bought in a package [report covers])

-Aquarium sealant or pins


If you're using aquarium sealant, make sure your tank is empty and clean. Glide a little bit down the edge of the report spines and place where wanted on the front and back of the inside of the tank. Wait for about 24 hours to dry. Using a razor blade, scrape off any extra sealant from the sides of the spines. Slide canvas inside the spines (trim if necessary) and set up your aquarium!

If you're using the pins, make sure your tank is already filled with water and substrate (optional). Trim the canvas to fit the inside of the tank. Place report spines on left and right sides of canvas and slide into tank (trim and alter as necessary). Substrate should hold bottom of divider in place; stick pins in the top of your divider and you're set!

This is absolutly great!!!! I LOVE IT! seriosly... I had to fighting fish, had to divide them, and the cost for a divider was ridiculous! plus, yours looks better! Thank you so much for the info...

Thanks so much Bettas are my favorite fish to keep so it's only practical to keep two in one tank with dividers haha. I use 2 though since I keep the filter/heater in the middle so the dividers baffle the current since they prefer still-water

I used this same method but without pins. I just used more of the plastic folder things to brace across the top and bottom, this way I was able to it cut to fit and wedge it tight. And all I need to do to remove it, is pop off the top plastic piece and bam comes right out. This set up worked fine with or without gravel I just had to trim up my pieces after I added the under gravel filter and rock.

If one sheet isn't wide enough, you could use two and paperclip them together to fill in what's left, but I'm sure it could work

I love clever people. They make everyone elses life much easier. Great Idea. I was thinking those were report binders looking at your tank picture. Just wasnt sure what you had in between them.

I was thinking too, if you needed two or more piecies you could tie them together with fising line. Or dental floss for that matter. non waxed and non flavored floss.

It works really great! I don't even use pins with mine anymore now that I got a new tank hood; I just trimmed and added another spine to the top of the divider and it's held in place with pressure. I wouldn't recommend doing that in larger tanks / with larger fish though because they might be able to still knock it down, however, I'm not very concerned about the strength of my bettas and snails !:
