Baby plecos

I take care of an aquarium for a fellow who has serious health issues and today I found baby plecos when I removed all the decorations to clean. He has a large common pleco and a rubber lip (I think). Definitely, hybrids either way. I left 8 with him and brought home the rest to see if I can grow them out.

The combination might keep them from growing too large. One reason I never buy a common pleco.

I gave up on common plecos as well. I am hoping these take after the smaller side of the parentage. They are showing some common pleco coloring.

I wouldn't have thought those two would cross. I think I read a long time ago that rubber lipped plecos hadn't been successfully bred in aquariums. It'll be interesting to see how these turn out -- any new pics?

I will have to check next time I’m over there. It might not be a rubble lips. I’m just guessing.

12 little Plecos munching on a log, one took a mouth full and said “Who knew this stuff tasted so good!”

Nice! Keep the updates coming....

As for me, the only plecos I keel are the sailfins as they love to eat and get big enough that my cichlids tolerate and cohabitate with them

I have a large sailfin or common in my 90g but my synodontis eupterus doesn’t like it.

I have been feeding algi wafers or pellets but have yet to see any of the plecos eat any. They do appear to be growing though. As I was sitting watching the tank I saw all these tiny white “bugs” bouncing around. The maple logs are directly from the yard and other than a slight rinse and scrub were not sanitized at all. Naturally occurring food I hope. :)

Upgrade to the pleco grow tank. I have a female red shrimp carrying eggs TOO.
Anubius nana
Witches hand java fern
Java moss
Crypt wendetii bronze
Crypt so?
12 pleco
19-20 white cloud minnow
1 Silver dollar
Red cherry mix shrimp
Wood is a small vine maple that died
Petrified wood is from my parent’s property in New Mexico.

1/2in ish of soil under the gravel. There is a screen between the soil and the gravel to avoid mixing.

I moved 3 of the plecos into the 35g goldfish tank. I had added a Finnex Stingray that was aiding in Algiers growth. Also a couple pics of the 55g.

Added some Kulhi Loaches and Vienna Guppies from a local aquarist who is moving. He is not planning on doing any large aquariums so I was able to purchase 7 48” LED fixtures as well for $200. 1 Fluval, 3 Finnex, and 3 Current USA.

I still have cherry shrimp too! Growth shots of plecos. I have moved several to other tanks but these have grown the most. Constant access to the maple bark, I think.

Thanks, I would like to get over to Vantage and collect some more. This came from my parent’s property in NM.
