New (to me) Tank Challenges - 50 Gallon Saga

Agree with Clownie, looks like it was some sort of dirt (maybe plain ol', maybe something more prepared) but the process of moving it has reversed the "dirt capped with gravel" to "gravel capped with dirt", lol. At least that's what it sounds like. You have minimal time invested in this tank...

    Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

Roy is totally right in theory, but in practice I've been using them on both of my acrylic tanks for years (75 and 100g), without any issues. It's possible that when I drain the tanks they'll be cloudy, I suppose, and neither tank is really in pristine condition to begin with, but they work for...

    Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

Absolutely! Been using them weekly for at least 3 years now. They work like a champ on both glass and acrylic tanks. Just gotta be careful to buy the original, as the other variants have soap or other chemicals in them. They make really short work of anything on the glass inside the tank.

    Dennys Pet World - Kirkland

Overall Experience: 4 Cost: 4 Quality of Fish: 3 Variety: 3.5 Service: 4 Finished up a soccer tournament for my youngest at 60 Acres and took the opportunity to make a first trip to the new store location. Very nice space upgrade in general, imo. I think the fish room might actually be a bit...

    135g 8ft Aquarium

I like the cyp/shellie idea. I'd even consider cyp/shellie/julies, with a string of rockpiles and interspersed shell beds. Add some bolbitis, java fern or crypts for a bit of planted color. Or...Tropheus, seems like a good tank for that. Or...a school of Geophagus with some cories and a...

Hey WA Fishboxers!! Help GSAS pick a Paul Loiselle talk

I'd like to see the Madagascar overview, "Ny Trondro Malagasy!", with conservation and aquarists a very strong second.

TFH Earth Day Special Still Going On; 1 yr $1 or 3 yr $2 Digital Edition

Although it's highly recommended to do the research BEFORE you buy, sometimes the impulse buys turn out OK, :) They went into a 10G with some other nano fish, and they're doing beautifully so far. Pretty good day all around at the auction.

TFH Earth Day Special Still Going On; 1 yr $1 or 3 yr $2 Digital Edition

Definitely a huge thank you to Roy for the tip. Like Loren, I just added a digital subscription successfully. The price is definitely right, and the benefit of having direct access to all the archived issues is really fantastic!! Found a fish I took home from the auction on the cover of the...

    Mosquito larvae

I saw a thread or a comment on this very thing on Cichlid-Forum.com last year, I think. Fed his fish pretty exclusively on mosquito larvae throughout the spring. He was feeding Mbuna, iirc, as the thread was centered around whether or not the protein would cause bloat, and claimed to have...

What did you do with your fish tanks today? Pics appreciated!

Great info and idea. Mine are still a single sheet with no handle. Perhaps this weekend I'll split one or two and drill a hole in the front panel. I've been feeding from the back, which has been OK, but I'd like a feeding hole up front.

    Quick Disconnect fitting source...

Cool, gonna have to browse the home depot aisles again, I guess!! I also saw a vid with a remote controlled pump which was cool (really just a remote for the outlet, but seems like I could definitely find a use for such a thing!!).

Potential New Tank - Help me understand...

Ok, thanks for the input guys. seems like it would be a workable setup. Eventually I think a sump is in my future, but for now this will be OK. I will probably see what shakes out of the GSAS auction first. @Cory , this is a 75G "tall", in that it's only 15" deep vice the normal 18" front...

    Quick Disconnect fitting source...

I watched a youtube video from Dustin's fish tanks the other day on Gary Lange's fishroom. "Gary don't Carry" cracked me up. I've been thinking about putting together the pvc assemblies to make draining tanks easier, and Gary referred to quick disconnects a couple of times so that he could...

Potential New Tank - Help me understand...

So, I've got an acrylic 75G that has a ton of crazing in it, and it's getting worse. Not sure what's causing it, but it worries me, and this is the only display tank in the house (upstairs at that), and so I've been on the lookout for a replacement. I found this on craigslist recently...
