tank siphon

Ever have a problem keeping the siphon hose in your tank when draining or filling your tank? I got tired of the hose slipping out and spilling water on the floor, so I did something about it. I went to Lowes and got two 90 degree 1/2" hose barb X 1/2" male NPT adapters and a 1/2" threaded coupling. Screw them together, it makes a "U" shaped fitting. Slip your hose on one side to the sink and a cut piece of hose into the tank. There is is, a no-slip solution to the issue I was having. It cost about $5.

Nice idea. I need to try something like that. I do multiple tanks so I leave the siphon to attend to filling another tank, etc. and have the occasional accident.

I was looking into some of the safety siphons that come with a powerhead to drain quicker, but might give your project a try. :spoton:

This would solve the bend in the hose cutting the flow problem down also, but I have kids to stand there.

Yeah, this has completely made water changes simple. I improved it slightly by reducing the length of the in-tank hose to match the level I want to drain my tanks to for my weekly water changes. This way, I start the siphon and forget about it, no issues of draining too much water. Then, I refill the tank and I'm done!

yeah, my local petshop does something like that, they have hoses on self-winding reels (for easy return), but still use regular siphons, i will be trying this out, the cutting to length part sounds like a good tip too.
