Serpae Tetra Color

How can i get my Serpae tetra to get a nice deep color? Right now it is a light pinkish color. I understand that it is a schooling fish and I am going to get a few companions for it tomorrow.

usually fish get better color the closer they get to breeding. So im sure if there is some opposite sex in the tank might brighten he/her up.
