Re: 15L build, 10g shrimp grow out, 55g Walstad
Definitely get a lid to keep the betta from jumping! We had one jump out once and he was never the same after that.
Keep us updated on your 55g. I'm sloooooowly setting mine up to be a planted tank also and I'm curious to see how you do yours. :)
At least it won't be bigger than anything else I'm planning on getting. I'm hoping to get the tank finished by February, so I'll post pics when it's done!
@DMD123, I'll definitely be getting everything else first and then adding the cichlids last. If I wanted to try breeding c. compressiceps, I'm guessing they'd need a lot more space to themselves. Has anyone here tried this in a community setup?
@Gizmo, the scarlet badis are cute little things...
That pike is pretty cool looking. Why didn't you keep it?
Which species of rainbow would you recommend? I have read that they are slow to mature. Does that refer only to color or size also?
OK, so theoretically, if I have a pair of either c. compressiceps or c. regani what else would could i stock my tank with? I love catfish, so what species do you guys think would be best?
DMD123 thinks I should keep more cichlids, lol, so what might make good tank mates for the pikes?
Do you know where I can get some in a darker color? The tan and grey is nice but I would like something a bit darker if I can find some.
Should I add anything when I first plant it, like root tabs, or are liquid fertilizers enough?
@madness I saw them on The Wet Spot's website and they were $20 for a 1.5" fish. I definitely couldn't afford more than 2 or 3.
@Addicted2CAs I don't want anything too difficult. From what I've seen the dwarf pikes aren't hard to keep, but I'm still wondering if I'm getting ahead of myself. My...
I looked up pictures of the c. regani and they are cool looking. How big do they get?
I read that c. compressiceps can be adapted to hard and alkaline water. So that opens up a lot more possibilities for a community tank.
I still haven't been there. Maybe I'll visit this weekend.
What would make a good target fish for the crenicichla?
I'm not sure if I want an African tank. I guess I don't know enough about them.
And no convicts!
