Think it'll hold? Support brace repair

I think it'll probably work. The weak point will be the old plastic as that is where it failed. having the largest contact area between the two will help. Also if you're worried having the tank maybe down 3-4 inches will help a lot with creating less outward pressure.

Older tanks used to have glass braces with silicone to hold it in place. I would be afraid of the rivits ripping through the old plastic frame since its been compromised already but as Cory said a lower water level would also relieve some of that pressure.

The water level is low as suggested. It was an old black plastic strip. I increased the width to 3" (it was about 2.5")
The apoxy has a good 1.25" bite. The rivets were more so to clamp the plastics together.

I did expect some tension on the brace when I filled the tank but to be honest there seems to be no additional tension from when the tank was empty and after I filled it.

Being my 1st brace repair I wanted to toss it out there for peoples input.
