Livebearer section

Some interest has been expressed in having a livebearer section in the forum again. If the mods see this as viable, I would love to see this also. I have some great livebearers at this time and would love to have one location to share and discuss them. Thanks...

My advice is start making some threads in general. Once people are posting etc. We'll move them over and create it

I should mention that there used to be a livebearer section. It was never used. The way to have more forums created is create the need for it. When there is a few on going threads about a topic, it will naturally spawn a need for it's own section.

Here's a quick phone photo of my platy fry tank (sunburst and panda).  8) 

I spent a bunch of time consolidating my h. formosa to a tank in the garage and moving platy juveniles and fry between tanks this morning.

Well...I guess posting here would work too...LOL. I was trying by adding a thread about my C. lateralis to start some threads in the general area...lets just add where we can and I love your pic. They look super happy in all that greenery. Very cool looking platties. Thanks for sharing pbmax.

Thanks! The tank has a bit of a cladophora algae issue, but the guppy grass and susswasertang grow like crazy and the little ones seem happy. Chocolate neocaridina culls keep everything pretty clean.

The panda fry have been highly variable - from nearly all black to completely pink-clear. I seem to have a glut of females though and only a handful of males. I'll take some better photos this week I think.

I imagine they're mostly xiphophorus maculatus with perhaps a bit of variatus mixed in - your standard domestic platy mishmash. I bought them directly from Imperial Tropicals last year. I received 1 female and 5 males; of those, the one female survived. She was pretty small when I got her and she's grown a lot since then. She's been spewing fry continuously since I received her, many of which have survived. I think I have around 15 sexually mature (VIRGIN!) female juveniles at this point and just 2 males.

It's possible there's some hilleri in the mix too, but not nearly as much as with my sunburst platies - they're decidedly different in shape from my pandas.

I love the black coloration and so far they've bred more or less true - no colors other than black, white/pink, and every mixture thereof.
