Hail Hydra!

IMG_2018.JPG IMG_2023.JPG Saw these tiny predatory creatures (3-5 mm) on the wall of one of my tanks. Took some photos with a clip on lens using my phone. Hydra are cnidarians (like corals, jellyfish) with the ability to "snatch" prey like fish or shrimp fry! Some fish eat them, such as anabantids (gouramis, betta), guppies and rainbowfish. They multiply by budding, where smaller hydra split off from the parent!

So you sound like you don't mind that they're in there. How did they get there?? Hitchhike on something or ?

They usually hitchhike on plants, etc. They are preyed on by my adult cherry shrimp as well!
