Our guest speaker is Lawrence Kent, who we're lucky enough to call our own! For his day job, Lawrence works for the Gates Foundation, traveling around the world (notably Africa and Southeast Asia). But he also manages to take time in those travels to discover and collect tropical fish in the "local" habitats.

At home, he raises and spawns them in his basement fishroom of 25 or so tanks---You can see this in our 2014 home show (though most of the fish are now different as he moves on to new species challenges!). Lawrence is one of the top participants in the C.A.R.E.S. program (both for GSAS and the country). He has written articles for the various national aquatic magazines, and has spoken at several national conventions.

Each one of Lawrence's presentations has been new and unique, and it has been a few years since we last had him speak for GSAS, so we are very excited to have him back. His latest talk is titled "How a Cichlid Guy got into Labyrinths".

The presentation, which is open to the public, will be Tuesday, February 13th, 2018 at 7:30 PM at Seattle Pacific University; Otto Miller Hall; Room 109; West Nickerson Street and 3rd Avenue West.

Doors will open about 6:30 PM for a 'social hour'; the meeting will start at 7:30 PM.

After the meeting, join us for our monthly auction and help to support the club that brings us all our these outstanding speakers.

This will be a great speak! I have had the pleasure to see his fish room just months after he collected these Gourami species. Neat little nano fishes, but it comes with an experienced Aquarist like Lawrence!

Hi All,

Livebearer Lady is correct, Lawrence is a great speaker this is one of the few presentations on Labyrinth fishes that GSAS will likely have because there are very few good speakers on the subject.
