The Greater Seattle Aquarium Society (GSAS) is pleased to sponsor a free lecture on on underwater habitats of the Amazon by Oliver Lucanus. Oliver is in the forefront of the explorers bringing back new fish from South America, Africa, and anywhere there are new fish to discover. For the last 18 years he has gone out in the field finding new fish; even as recently as last winter. He does expeditions, assignments, video/movie, talks, ran his own importing business; he has done it all!

Oliver has co-authored numerous books, most recently he has authored his own book "The Amazon: Below Water".

Oliver lives in Montreal Canada and is a speaker that is in HIGH demand throughout the world. It has taken us almost 10 years to get him out to our club to speak; even the experts say they want to come to this meeting, so mark your calendars!!

Is he just going to talk about planted tanks with dwarf cichlids???????? Most of the people I know that have South American Cichlids don't have Planted Tanks. So If he is just going to talk about Dwarf Cichlids and Plants than it wont apply to a lot of SA cichlid keepers, and that might be something that you want to tell members before they become members of GSAS, come to the meeting and not like it because it wont be helpful or imforitive to them. It's just my thought being a GSAS member.

Hi Bassmann42,

Possibly I did not make it clear that Oliver Lucanus will be doing his presentation about habitats of the Amazon. This will be a new presentation that has not been done by Oliver before, we are the first to enjoy it. I am guessing that the talk will encompass a wide range of species (including cichlids) as well the habitats in which they are found.

I believe that you may be under the misconception that you must be a member of The Greater Seattle Aquarium Society (GSAS.org) to attend one of our meetings. That is not the case. Anyone is welcome to attend a GSAS meeting (or two) as a 'guest' and then decide for themselves if they want to join a club dedicated to promoting our hobby.

Our members range from "Monster Fish Keepers" to Nano tank enthusiasts, and we try to invite speakers that appeal to all of our members and all of their various interests. Recent internationally known speakers have included Dick Au (Discus), Barbie Fiorentino (Plecostomus and Loricariids), Ad Konings (Lake Tanganyika sand-dwelling cichlids), Tom Barr (Planted Aquariums), and Gary Lange (Rainbowfishes). In November we will have Chuck Rambo doing a presentation on Rare and Unusual Dwarf Cichlids and in January we have a speaker on Goldfish. Dick Au will be returning in May to do a presentation I am looking forward to hearing "Raising Fish for Fun and Profit".

Bassman42, when you see that GSAS is has a speaker that is of interest to you, please attend. You may find that you are pleasantly surprised and want to come back!
