Can someone identify this African Cichlid please I brought this little guy home and totally forgot. max size is only 5"

Looks like one of the Melanochromis species, but rift lake's aren't my thing.

Possibly Pseudotropheus cyaneorhabdos, commonly called blue maingano. They were formerly Melanochromis, but were reclassified.
