My pair Aequidens pulcher aka electric blue acaras has a ton of fry in the breeder/fry tank. When do I separate the parents from the fry or don't separate parents from fry? They have been with frys for 2weeks now. Just don't want acara parents accidentally eating their frys like my dumb angel parents did to their frys. Advice from cichlid keepers please.

I never remove the parents. The parents may start picking them off when they are ready to spawn again, but I have only had 1 pair of any Cichlid that did that, the others would not spawn again until the fry were removed.

If you have another tank, I would remove the fry, leaving about 10 or so in there so parents dont get angry with each other. Do this at any time, I usually move them around 4 weeks if I am looking to grow them out.

If I ever plan to move parents back to main show tank (125gal American cichlid tank). Will the parents get violent with each other?

They shouldnt, because they were never seperated, but anything is possible.

Would love to know how your doing it? My smiling acara have had a batch of fry almost every 3 weeks but seem to suddenly disappear about 3-4 days after hatching. No changes in temp, PH, and only acara and otto in the tank...

The Frys are dead due fungal infection from uneaten repashy that I left and forgot to remove. It molded and then all Frys starting dying off. Have to start from square 1.

Super bummer!

Time to turn the lights down low, and put on some Teddy Pendergrass.

Good luck on round 2
