*** GSAS Annual Plant Auction! Tomorrow 11/14! ***

Tuesday November 14: Plant Auction! (At West Seattle!)

The Greater Seattle Aquarium Society (your local aquarium club since 1971) is having its B-I-G annual Aquarium Plant Auction!! The money raised at this auction helps GSAS bring world class speakers to our community for our free lecture series presented at our regular meetings on the second Tuesday of the month. In the past couple of years we have hosted presentations by following internationally known speakers: Bart Laurens, Rachel O'Leary, Ad Konings, Karen Randall, Oliver Lucanus, Lawrence Kent, Chuck Rambo, Tom Barr, Gary Lange, Dick Au, Ted Judy, Christel Kasselmann, Ian Fuller, Mike Wise, Greg Sage, Juan Miguel Artigas Azas, and Klaus Steinhaus just to name a few.

What can you expect? Last year we had over 400 items which were sold in a little less than 3 hours....the pace is fast and furious!! There will be tons of plants; most of them grown by GSAS members and some nice specimen plants purchased from one of the country's best aquarium plant nurseries. Along with the plants there is member-spawned fish, freshwater shrimp, maybe an axolotl or two. What you won't see are any dry goods, tanks or filters (come back in April for the General Auction).

You must be a member to sell; everyone can buy! We accept cash, credit cards, or if you are a GSAS member a personal check.

When? Tuesday November 14th the doors open at 6:00 PM and the auction starts at 7:00 PM until ??

Our auction will be held at a new location, the West Seattle Eagles Club, 4426 California Avenue Southwest, Seattle, WA. The Eagles Club is conveniently located about 1/2 mile from the west Seattle Bridge.

No admission charge, accessible, family friendly (but no furry/feathered pets please), lots of free parking

We are generously sponsored by many of the local fish stores and numerous aquarium supply manufacturers.

See our web page at Greater Seattle Aquarium Society for more information.

Hi All,

Just a reminder that the GSAS Big Annual Plant Auction is coming up in about 3 weeks. Not only are plants brought in from one of the top aquatic plant nurseries GSAS members bring in some 'rare' species that are typically only seen offered on the specialized aquarium plant forums. If you are into planted tanks you will not want to miss this auction. Arrive anytime, leave anytime, but fair warning the best bargains are usually at the end of the auction! Hope to see you there! -Roy

Hi All,

Just a reminder that the annual GSAS Plant (and livestock) Auction is less than a week away!

I received word that not only will there be a huge selection of GSAS member plants, fish, and invertebrates we will also be receiving a very nice donation from Florida Aquatic Nurseries and a surprise donation from Tropica of three (3) dozen plants!

No need to bring cash, we take most major credit cards!!

Hi clownie,

The best bargains are usually the last hour of the auction; we hope to be done by +/- 9:30PM. Check-in and check-out at any point during the auction!

Hi All,

The excitement and auction items continue to build! I see Apistos, fancy guppy strains, some pretty rare Crypts and Erios are all supposed to be there tomorrow - hope you will be too!
(Remember it is a new location, the Eagles Club in West Seattle on California Ave.)

Hi All,

Wow, last year we had a total of 464 items, right now we have over 434 items going up for bid and members are still registering items to bring! Already registered are some 'rare' cryptocornes, various varieties of freshwater shrimp, four species of Apistogramma, Plecos, corydoras, live foods, and the list keeps getting longer and longer!

Doors open at 6:00pm, auctions starts at 7:00pm, arrive and leave at any time, 'push pail' available to 'bump' an item on the tables to the front for bidding if you can't wait. Help support your local aquarium club!

I hope we see you there,
-Roy

Hi All,

For those of you who could not make it you missed out! It was the largest GSAS Fish and Plant auction ever with over 600 items, all fish and plants, all sold in less than 4 hours!! As in any auction some items sold for more than they were likely worth but a great many items went at bargain prices.

For livestock there were several varieties of shrimp including Crystal Black, Crystal Red, and Dream Blue Velvet, multiple varieties of Apistos, a breeding colony of ten (10) German Blue Rams, "L" Plecos, and countless other species. For the 'plantheads' there was Microsorum pteropus "Singapore Dark", Cryptocoryne shivdasani (and several other rare crypts) , Bucephelandra (several species), Anubias barteri "Nangi", Nymphaea minuta (from C. Kasselmann), Nymphaea micrantha, Nymphaea gardneriana and countless other unusual and more common species.

Thanks to the local GSAS Sponsor Stores, two very large aquatic plant suppliers, one of our local wholesalers, and our many GSAS members and guests that did show up and provided us with our most successful Fish and Plant auction since the club started over 40 years ago!
