    Lets talk heaters....

The other day noticed this on the Finnex site, talking about the T-series, from https://www.finnex.net/finnex-titanium-aquarium-heaters-digital-controller: I'm not sure what to make of this warranty disclaimer, given the long established history of basement/garage fish rooms.

    The 300 Gallon Build

Yeah I called at 3:30pm last Friday and the lady was honest: Well, we close at 4:30pm but, uhh, well it is Friday and sometimes the guys like to take off. :-)

    guess where i was today.

Those fish probably arrive at the store in pretty good shape. If you buy them, they'll just order more, rinse repeat. I'd say taking those pictures and sending letters to management would be a good thing. I bet those stores just need a few employees that know what they're doing to make a fish...

    The 300 Gallon Build

Did you get the sand from Manufacturer's Minerals Co (http://manminco.com/) in Renton? That is the only source I know. When I was there over a year ago they were friendly and told me they sell a lot to aquarium people, but they're only open daytime hours M-F, so it is tough for me to get back...

    Guess whats in the box?

I've heard good things about the Sera heaters. Kindof a retro throwback design that (maybe) hasn't yet been ruined by cheap build quality. Aren't they relatively short for the wattage? One thing I've heard about the Fluval heaters is that they need to be in a spot with good flow. Was that...

    Guess whats in the box?

Glad you're liking the Custom Aquariums tank. I've not seen many reviews of them so I'm watching with interest. What do you think of their aluminum framing? I think it is pretty funny that their price sheet offers a 15 gallon aquarium for $323, made from 1/2" glass! I'm willing to bet they...

    Dry ice ?

I think controlling the amount of co2 injected would be the hard part with this approach. I did a google search for "dry ice aquarium co2" and lots of people seem to have wondered about this approach. I've not seen anyone claim success.

Not many are lucky enough to have a spot for those deep tanks. It should be awesome.

pH drops with water aging: what is the explanation?

Yep. Seems few really know why our tap pH swings down when aged. I certainly don't (I only have my CO2 absorption theory, backed by no science). pH drops in RO makes some sense if KH is being reduced.

pH drops with water aging: what is the explanation?

Has anybody seen credible and scientific explanations of why "Seattle" tap water drops in pH after sitting/aging for a day or so? I asked this on another forum and didn't get great answers. I'm curious if wafishbox folks know the answer, especially since this pertains to the soft "Seattle"...

    Well, I'm stumped, discus problems.

Take what I say with a grain of salt...I've never had discus. I've been lurking on forums and researching them for the past month or so. I've found the "Emergency Room" threads over on Simply Discus pretty educational. Their questionnaire alone makes you really break down what has been going...

    Latest discus project

Carl, do you bother with crushed coral or worrying about KH in your Discus tanks? I see you're in Shoreline. I'm in Kirkland, and I assume we have the same water (1-2 degrees hardness, both KH and GH). In "regular" tanks I see the point of crushed coral to avoid PH crashes, but in Discus...

    4 Gallon re-scape

Wow, all due to the ADA soil? I guess it is a tiny tank. At what ppm does Ammonia start retarding/killing the bio? I forget...

    Latest discus project

Good to hear! I've been researching discus, mostly on simplydiscus.com, and it is refreshing to hear a story that hasn't ended in mysterious deaths. It seems all too common.
